The Life & Times of
William A. Lane
(aka) DominicanBilly.

William "DominicanBilly" Lane

Here I am over looking the Rio San Juan bay, having a rum and coke at one of the bars on the north coast is a favorite passtime. I will admit to you that a big reason why I love my retirement lifestyle in Puerto Plata is that everyone here greets you with a warm smile and a kiss on the cheek.

When I go out to my favorite watering holes I can buy a round of drinks for ten dollars, on my pension I couldn't afford a round of drinks in Hamilton.

Recient History Since Retirement.

When I retired from Dofasco a steel mill in Hamilton Canada in 1992, I moved to Puerto Plata, bought a home and married a dominican woman. After 8 years in retirement I was invited to open a hotel in the Puerto Plata area. So now I have a new career in the hospitality industry.

Anoeca Condo Project.

This “Anoeca Development” is located above downtown Puerto Plata with a breath taking view from Costambar to the Playa Dorada complex. It's just 3 miles from the Playa Dorada complex, with shopping, golf, casinos & nightlife.

A lot of living in the Dominican Republic takes place outdoors, and you’ll find that Anoeca Condos are designed to help you enjoy your surroundings to the fullest. Extras include a pool, an outdoor gas grill with green space and plenty of landscaped sitting areas. It also has back-up electricity, under ground parking with security and English speaking management.

I'm ask, "is it dangerous there" the only dangerous thing here is driving.

To stay in the all inclusive hotels in the Playa Dorado complex would be to miss out on the real Dominican experience.

You will love the people and the country but most tourists see only what they perceive as relative poverty, unless you have someone to explain their lifestyle.
Most hotels have become all-inclusive and as a result many of the good restaurants in and around Puerto Plata have suffered greatly.
The hotels tell the tourists that it is not safe to go outside the hotel complex in the night time and only with tours in the day time.

THIS IS NOT SO!!!

As for safety, it has been my experience, it is entirely safe. Although there have been occasions where single men have run into difficulty by being picked up by a beautiful girl, or a motor concho has taken a customer for a few extra pesos.
These incidents have been very few in number, and violent crime is much less than back in downtown Toronto.
